Tinder Escapes on
St. Patrick's Day

John Davis

Tinder re-pencils his eyebrows at the drag queen bar. He’s midway to grubbing his arm around a sequined shoulder, muddling the air with his mojito breath which is far above the alcohol limit. He’s flicking his arm, feeling the delicious click of bracelets sliding up and down his wrist. He’s so armored under Boys ‘N Berries lipstick, attachable nipples, night-sky dress and a sea of eyelashes. He is Sylvia Lime, hides his lies under lime green fingernails, twerks, lurks his long lashes, ready to land a man, hand on hand, build a dam on the dancefloor, man to man, as the waters flood the music. Let the waters rise. He grabs on to shoulders floating by, rides the current around the room, ready to land on a new shore.

John Davis is the author of Gigs and The Reservist. His work has appeared in DMQ Review, Iron Horse Literary Review and Terrain.org. He lives on an island in the Salish Sea and performs in several bands.
